I have been reading and I think this is correct. Please tell me if it is wrong: (Flag at Half Mast)

And a quote:
“Whatever else history may say about me when I’m gone, I hope it will record that I appealed to your best hopes, not your worst fears; to your confidence rather than your doubts. My dream is that you will travel the road ahead with liberty’s lamp guiding your steps and opportunity’s arm steadying your way.”

Thanks, Penguin!

To the Gipper, Salute!.

He wasn't perfect, but I think that overall the world is a better place due to his efforts.

I agree. I was pretty young when he was in office, but even then I remember admiring my country's president greatly. Rest in peace Ronnie.

The thing I remember the most about President Reagan was his speech in Berlin

General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!

I had an opportunity to meet and speak with someone from East Germany a few years back. When he spoke of that speech he had tears in his eyes. As he put it, "that day my life began to change. It was a change to freedom, something I had never known."

I think his most moving speech tho was after the Challenger expolsion. At the end of that speech he summed it up and kind of like a grandfather gives a reassuring pat on the back to a child, he spoke the words meant to heal our country and the world from this disaster.

The crew of the space shuttle Challenger honored us by the manner in which they lived their lives. We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for the journey and waved goodbye and 'slipped the surly bonds of earth' to 'touch the face of God.'

I also just remembered that he was shot on my second birthday. :(

I was an unabashed Reagan supporter during his lifetime, but I find now that I miss him more as a man than as a politician. He was like a favorite old uncle that you loved having around.

Politicians are a dime a dozen; great men are very rare. We will likely never see his sort again.

Well said, Tom. I hope you're wrong, but I fear that you're right.

The tragic loss of a great man,no matter what your politcal views are.

You can tell a lot about a fellow's character by his way of eating jellybeans.
Ronald Reagan, quoted in Observer, March 29 1981

Make the most of yourself, for that is all there is of you.

I used to think Ronald Reagan, even when he was President, was just an actor hitting his marks and saying his lines. But my opinion has changed along the way.

He was a great man who got some great things accomplished for the USA (despite being a Republican  ). High integrity with a sense of humor and a quick wit.

Everytime I vote I always write his name in for some race. I usually wrote in "The Gipper". That is to make up for not being old enough to have ever voted for him.

I was happy for his family that he will no longer have to suffer.

I will miss him greatly.

Reaganomics, if you remember that. However, you recall he was battling Altzheimers so in one sense he is better off. That has to be amung the worst ways to go. He was a good president though. Possibly the best one in a real long time.

ressurected 2 years later so a partisan bashing contest can start?

I don't think so... :(
