Shoot with both eyes open, might take some getting use to, but one eye is dominant and you will get use to it.

Is your diopter adjustment set right? Could be that your eye adjusts to the settings then takes awhile to focus back.

Eye strain? I've never had this, I wear contacts. Go see an optometrist.

Close one eye. Relax the other eye and look through the viewfinder.
Don't strain.
Do the settings look blurry along with the image you're pointed at?
If yes, adjust the diopter.

Might want to get your eyes checked. After using my eyes some much for photography I found out I have astigmatism in my right eye. I had never noticed that one was stronger than the other untill I started using one at a time on a regular basis.... now I wear glasses

I don't think he said which eye was the problem, but my guess is it is the one that he keeping shut, not his shooting eye.

I haven't had this for years, but when I used to shoot MF I suffered headaches from staring at unfocussed screen all day. But I reckon it was also possibly related to stress. Now I'm very relaxed with my gear to my eye, I never suffer from any aches and pains.

I used to have this problem after a log weekend of basketball or swimming. I found that my eye was getting tired from all the focusing it had to go through since I was holding one eye shut and the open eye had to do all the work.
THE VERY DAY I started shooting with both eyes open the problem went away and has not returned.
AS an added benefit I found that having the other eye open allowed me to follow the action even better....

I get this after every wedding. It's just from keeping the eye closed for a long period of time. Usually takes me about an hour before it clears up a bit.
Kind of like getting up in the morning. Can one see 100% from the minute they open their eyes. No. It takes time for your eyes to readjust. I think this is pretty normal.

Every wedding...driving home is always a treat! Not to mention, I wear eye glasses and they are forever getting smudged and streaked with grease and sweat.
