i know some people here listen to music when they go out for a day of shooting and i know everyone here listens to music. So, the question i have is what headphones do you use and what have you found to be the best headphones (clarity, volume, comfort etc.)

Etymotics ... google and check their web site and reviews. I personally had their expensive top of the range jobbies but the cheaper ones I now have are actually as good, or so close that most won't notice. Makes a huge difference, esp. if you have crummy iPod ones. Also they are in ear type so you don't hear all the surrounding noise. You need to be careful walking around and some may not like sticking things in their ears.

I used to have a pair of Shure E3 earphones. Like the Etymotics, they're an in-ear - noise isolating earphone. Anyway, they were pinched a couple of weeks ago. I now have a pair of Shure E2c earphones. Same in-ear principle but slightly bigger than the E3.
I wear these all the time at wedding gigs. Especially during the reception where the dj/band music can be quite loud.
They are discreet, can be used as a normal ear-plug - or, with your mp3 player during the reception, listen to your own music and nobody will even notice!!! :)

I play a lot of games on my pc so I use the Zalman 7.1 Headphones. Not Audiophile material but sound bloody good and the 7.1 works really really well.

I love my Westone UM1. They respond well to amplification aswell, but my portable doesn't.
I have a tube+K501 system for home listening.

Hehe. Yeah, it's really overwhelming. But remember the first time you picked up your camera and then waltzed into the EF lens forum?
Here are the basics:
Open = sound leaking. You can hear outside, people beside you can hear your music. Generally better soundstage and sound quality. Good for home/bedroom listening.
Closed = opposite of open. Not exactly completely isolated but muffles most of the sounds.
IEM = In Ear Monitors. These block out almost all sounds and sit deep in your ear canal. They're basically ear plugs with wires coming out. Musicians use these on stage to keep their hearing and to make sure they're in tune.
I wouldn't worry about amplification at this stage.
The basic suggestions are as follows (sorta like the nifty fifty and 17-70 suggestions)
Koss KSC-75. Amazing sound quality for the price but it's open so it's quite useless for noisy environments.
AKG K81DJ. Boomy bass, but pretty good sound quality for closed cans.
Westone UM1. Great IEMs for ~$100. Very comfortable.
