I'm realising that I'm going to need a card reader when I get my 10D. What should I buy and where should I buy it. I live in Norway but am visiting the US for a month starting on 14th June. Recommendations please? I run XP pro on a PC (if that info is relevant..)
Thanks in advance for your advice.

Card readers are pretty cheap and I think pretty equivalent. I have two from Lexar. A regular one that works with any card brand and a Lexar Jump Shot Cable. If you buy one of the 40X Lexar Cards, it comes with a Jump Shot Cable that can be used to read Lexar USB Enabled Cards. It will only read Lexar cards that are USB enabled. The Lexar 40X cards have their own USB controller.
Just make sure that whichever one you buy is a fairly recent version card reader that doesn't require software to run in XP.

Scott

I agree with Scott that they're pretty equivalent. A couple things you might want to look for, if you've got USB 2.0 capabilities you might want one that will do that and if you have any other forms of media you use get a multiformat one. I use a Kodak 6-in-1 USB 2.0 reader and I got it for something like $20. Does the job wonderfully.

Yeah.. I have an El~Cheapo generic 6 in one USB2 and it's nice and fast..

About the only thing you really need to consider is interface..

If your PC does NOT have firewire.. then the choice is simple.. just get a USB2 drive..

If you have Firewire and NO USB2 then the choice is equally simple.. just get a firewire.. (and pay twice as much)

If you have BOTH.. then it's up to you but I'd go for the cheaper USB2..

i got a "Hama" 8 in 1 USB 2 reader and it's great. I don't have USB 2 ports on my mac though so I only get 1.1 speed, but it is a fair bit faster than connecting the camera directly for some reason, plus it doesn't drain the camera battery needlessly. and it was cheap!!
