430EZ as off camera flash

I started using my old 430EZ flash as an off camera light source for portraits.
The only problem I have is the fact that this flash turns off after a couple of minutes if it is not fired. I have turn it back on manually again. Quite annoying. Can anyone help? I use four NiMH batteries as a power source.

I sold my 430 some months ago and got the 580 but you may check in the Custom Functions menu for the auto off timer .. on the 580 you can select the number of minutes for auto power off to either 10 or 60 minutes.
