I had a blast shooting my friend Blaine's wedding as a second shooter. They had it at a nice house of one of their relatives. This is my second wedding and the photographer I work with booked one for me to do solo on Sept. 29th so I'm pretty excited. There's more than 8 pics I like so feel free to check them out off my site.

I went through every picture and zoomed in on them all and I must say that I really like a lot of them. I love almost all of the ones with the kids in them and there are a few others that caught my eye too. You did a fine job capturing some great moments and I think the majority of them were exposed nicely. Some of them look a little too soft and a little too pinkish red to me but others look quite good. I am sure you know the difference yourself so no point in telling you every image I am talking about. Overall, good job. :-) I love the tats on the bridesmaid by the way. A bit distracting from the bride... but maybe that's because I like tats so that's where my focus went. :-)

Yeah I really liked her tat as well. I'm not into them on me but they are definitely a lot of fun to photograph. I know what ya mean about a few being maybe too soft. I was kinda iffy on whether I liked them or not but the brides and others seem to like the soft look so what can ya do hah. It's a lot of fun taking photos of people that are fun and easy to work with, especially when they're your friends. I was able to use my new 70-200 which was a dream. Going from body shots to head shots in an instant and not having to worry about my shutter speed dropping below 200 all the time was nice.

Yeah, I really love the 70-200 also. It's my baby. :-)

how do you get very soft photos like some of them? I am a fan of sharp pics myself, thats just because I've never needed (or at least I haven't come across a time) where I thought soft would be better
but in a wedding situation like this, its obvious soft does work

They look glamour soft though which I think makes a difference. They have a soft "glow" to them which is very nice.

They are a mix of different actions and filters I have. As well as applying masks and the history brush to get back some eyes detail and such.

I love the colors in this one. How did you do this technique in Photoshop? (if that's what you used)
I also really like the one of the little girl running down the hall - in black/white. Really cute and the soft blurr effect worked well.

Trial and error. :p
Everything with photography and editing I have learned on my own through forums and trying stuff out. Practice makes perfect. I'm always learning new things and still don't know a ton about both photography and Photoshop.

What action did you use on this one?

I honestly don't remember, sorry. Rarely will I just open a picture, apply 1 action and then save it though. So I don't really remember the process, a lot of them I go with the flow and see what I like at the time.

I was looking at this awesome picture the other day and thinking what an awesome shot! How innocent and beautiful. So today I'm looking at it again and the first thing I see is the cleavage shot of the mom!

Yeah I know what you mean, I was trying to find a way to make her shirt less revealing but to no avail. I figure she isn't the main focus of the picture so people will live.

Nice series of shots from that wedding and I wish you luck on your solo wedding. Sometimes you can't avoid things like that in your first photo. I do like the pping style in the series. Good job!

Very nice coverage and many nice details. I think the photographer you're working for is doing the right thing to let you shoot one on your own. The only thing I have to complain about is that your post processing sometimes is a bit *too* contrasty, so that you loose details in the highlights and shadows. Be a tad careful with those, and you'll still get some very nice and contrasty images, with details.
