View Full Version : RAW image distortion

I just started shooting RAW images on my S30 and noticed a problem with image distortion, with both X and Y axis foreshortening (compacting). I repeated this in controlled circumstances, two shots of the same image, one in RAW and the other with an automatic setting producing JPEG, at large and superfine file size settings. I note these differences as I view them in Photoshop CS with the Adobe RAW converter, but not with the Canon RAW converter application. Do I have something set wrong? Is this an Adobe bug for the S30? I am really confused and wondering why I ever began to explore RAW - even though I know that I should use it.

I confess I don't really understand what you mean. It would help if you could post some comparison images. I have converted D60 RAW images with Breezebrowser and PS CS and found no difference between them as far as image geometry is concerned.

The problem arose when I used the Adobe ACR as it appears by default, with a 240 pixel/inch resolution. When compared with the JPEG image that comes in from the S30, which I had not realized was coming in at 180, the preview and RAW conversion appear shrunken. If you set the Adobe plugin for 180, they are comparable. It all seemed a bit odd, especially since the Canon RAW Convert 2 tool works perfectly, Adobe vouches for their plugin and others are not reporting this problem. So resolved.
