I'll be truthful. It needs some help in composition. Too much stuff around the dogs...Get a lot closer or crop it in photoshop to a vertical. A good record shot but it needs some help. Exposure and sharpness look ok but get closer.

LOL! Yeah Csst...just joking...
But yeah, we see that's your new 16-35, but to be honest, that's not a very good example of what that lens (could) do. The dogs are cute and all, but it's just a snapshot.
Go shoot some landscapes or something...Or ducks. Yeah, shoot some ducks. ;)

You didn't leave the old shot online. I don't remember the other photo, but I think you've cropped it.

Since you asked. The cropped shot is much better, but the picture is beige on beige on beige with no variation on light. The dogs are cute...there's the saving grace.

Cst, you are asking people that like taking pictures of ducks, and boats, and rulers and the moon, to give you comments on dogs. They are good at what they do, but they just aren't up to the task of giving a good dog critique. Now me on the other hand shoot a lot of dogs. Both formal, working and show. So when I tell you that the cropped version is better, you can believe it. Those other guys don't know what they are talking about.

Alright, alright.
A few things... you are up too high. You have to get down to their level or get them up to your level, or meet them half way like I do (I use a platform for formal stuff). But the perspective of looking down just doesn't look good. So if you got young knees, get down low. If you have more mature knees like I do (read getting old) then a 18" or so platform works great.
Your lighting doesn't do the faces any good. Because of the black hair on their faces, it isn't going to reflect the light very well... so you end up getting a black blob for a face. The color of their body hair does real well since it reflects light better. Besides a bit more light on the front, you need some cross lighting. Cross lighting will bring out the detail in their faces.
Collars and harnesses. I find dog portraits look a lot better without them. You don't realize just how obvious they are until you get your prints back. Then you see the bright red harness and shiny metal dog tags reflecting your light back. If it's safe to do so, temporarily take them off.
Pugs have another problem that most other breeds don't have... the low profile face. Pugs just don't have a lot of nose. So if you take a straight on shot of their face you are going to get a button nose and 2 big dark eyes. Very little 3D effect. So you want to try for a slight profile. Sometimes this will help.
Ok, that's all I'll lay on your for now. I don't want to put the other guys to sleep.... opps, looks like it's too late. Oh well. You ought to hear them go on about boats and cars and ducks.
What are you trying to do with your pictures? Just get better shots of your dogs, or trying to also do others?
I hope some of this helps.
