I am currently using a Kodak ProN, which is the biggest HOS (first word Heap, second word Of) you can imagine. Kodak have withdrawn from the market. Anyway, as a result a have a couple of good quality Nikon Lenses. I have been looking at the Canon EOS 5D and the NiKon D2xs . As you can see from the black background shot at http://www.kidsphotography.com.au the Kodak has a big noise problem. Can anyone advise if there are any such problems with the above mentioned cameras and whether I should sell the lenses I have and buy new ones and a Canon or stick with the Nikon. It appears when I check out other photographers that most use Canon rather than Nikon, so this leans me towards the Canon, but I dont want to make another bad camera choice.
Thanks,
Steve

Have you thought of one of the Fujifilm dslr's?
Looking at the work that you do, i think one would suit you quite well. The s3pro has nearly the same body as the old ProN you are using and the s5pro is an upgraded version of it in the beasty d200 body. They both handle noise pretty well, have a higher dynamic range than both canon and nikon and they give the best skin tones out of pretty much anything else on the market. Plus you able to use your current nikon lenses.
Just my 2 cents :)

Canon 5D of cause. Usable at High ISO above 400 and FF sensors that neither Fuji or Nikon have.

Well you are really buying into a whole system. Personally and objectively I think Canon are the stronger at the moment. Two or three times I have had opportunity to look around and start over and each time I have stuck with Canon. May change of course and good gear, lenses anyway, do hold good value so the change need not be too problematic. The 5D is a very nice body.

With the apparent exception of the new 1DMkIII, the 5D was king of ISO noise (or lack, thereof). Never seen a good shot, in respect to noise, from any Nikon over 400 or 800. I find that rather depressing. 5D is a truly awesome body.

If mid- to high-ISO noise is an important consideration, then the 5D is the choice. It is a very clean camera, and it retains detail as you crank up the ISO. While Nikon used strong software noise reduction on the D2X, the 5D retains detail. The difference is quite dramatic at ISO 1600 & 3200. You simply lose microdetail on the Nikon in comparison to the 5D as the ISO increases.
I think that since you're already shooting full-frame, you'll appreciate the similarities in terms of depth-of-field if you move to the 5D.
The D2x offers a lot of features and capabilities that match it's position as a full pro body, and it is no slouch. It's a proven performer. It's also a somewhat expensive performer, and those features may not serve your needs. You have to decide that aspect.

I was in a similar situation, even worse though, a Kodak DCS 760. I chose to go with a 5D and have no regrets. I saw a review, on FM I think, that compared 1Ds Mark II, 5D and D2x. Both Canon's out shined the Nikon. Of course the lenses are not cheap for Canon and I ended up spending more than I had thought I would for the change over. I still think it was worth it.

I'd go with the 5D as the D2Xs is more expensive and getting pretty old.
I think in terms of noise, both do pretty well but the 5D may do better. If you have expensive Nikon lenses, then you can sell them and buy Canon lenses with the proceeds.
I wouldn't recommend the Fuji S5 as a photog next door to me had it and switched to the 5D after he tested both for noise.
