I decied to take my 300d for a test drive to the moon.
I took this using a 28-90mm lens focused though a reflector telescope.
Thoughts.

Wasn't sure wether it was the telescope or the camera.

Hi,
Unless the moon was that blurry to your eyes, it probably wasn't the telescope. What was the shutter-speed? I have found that at that kind of magnification there is a loss of sharpness due to the moon's movement in the sky at less than 1/180.
Here is a 100% crop from one I took ages ago with a 100-400 L @ 400mm with the 10D @ around 1/250 (can't remember exactly):

I would have thought even a poor telescope should be able to do better than a 400mm lens.

Most likely your shutter speed. You should shoot in Tv mode and make sure you have a fast shutter speed. I forget the exact speed, but something like .5 second or less, the moon will blur as it moves.

It wasn't the shutter speed.
I had it at about 200sec.
I think it was just the telescope didn't give a good focus

Try these ones shot w/ a 10D and Sigma 120-300mm F2.8EX. They are 100% crops...
I will post them in a few hrs...
