mmMMMMMmm ... I want BBQ chicken!

I seen this done on the food network.

Tip: Make sure the chicken is dead before you insert the can.

Great shots. And a tasty way to serve up the fowl. I usually only use a half a can of beer, but the big thing to remember is when the cooking is done there is still hot liquids in the can. Often the bird sticks to the can a bit so be careful with removal.

You can buy the little stand at Canadian Tire or Walmart. I've seen them at Sears too where you buy barbeques. Just drink about 1/3 of the beer and put the beer on the stand then wrap the three prongs around it and shove the chicken on top. I used a spice rub on the chicken but you can use barbeque sauce too. Cook it on medium low until done. The meat pretty much falls off the bones. You can use juice too, but hey.....I'm Canadian...... The paint stays on the can btw. And it smells sooooooooo good cooking.
The nicest part is, none of the grease hits the barbeque with the exception of a few small splatters, so there's no flare ups.

Beer can chicken! Yum! Yum! :D
Here in the south US, if you can't cook it with beer, it's not worth eating! ;)
Seriously though, beer makes a chicken, turkey, steak, an even homemade biscuits taste better.
Now that I've read this post, it's time to fire up the Traeger and cook something with beer!!!

Is it necessary to close the lid of the grill? I don't know if my grill is big enough inside to have a chicken verticle, plus stand/beer can and still get the cover shut. If the cover is left open, I'm guessing the cook time would be quite long.

Nevermind above post, I read the cooking instructions link:
A chicken cooked in a grill with a lid takes about an hour and a half to 2 hours to cook. On an open grill, it will run 3 hours or more to fully cook the chicken. To check for doneness, insert a meat thermometer. The reading will be 180 degrees F (80 degrees C) when done. Some chickens are sold with a little pop out doneness meter, but they cost more than birds without such indicators.

I have a piece of equipment for my BBQ that does this. So VERY good it is. The beer cans are actually 1/2 full with the beer and you can add whatever you want to it(spices,BBQ sauce).. The Chickens takes 1 and a half hours to cook on the BBQ with the lid closed on low heat only.. It is really and incredible little invention.

I can second this. I am also from western KY (Henderson to be exact). I really like beer bread.

I've heard this process is awesome with turkeys. Never had it. I also always wanted to try deep fried whole turkey. I'm getting old, better hurry before the docs say no more stuff like that. lol

I know what you mean "butt" it might work around Xmas when you get given a case of
beer and its one you don't like...
In saying that VB would be a good choice..

I've done this. Beer is good but if you don't like beer, or don't want to waste it, lemon-lime soda like Sprite or cherry cola work well too. So does Dr. Pepper. Enjoy!

I want to try this sometime!

Has anyone here ever had "Beer Dogs"? Basically instead of boiling hotdogs in water, you boil them in beer. Great stuff1

Beer can chickens are the best! I've probably made them 4 times this year already.

Try stuffing a small onion into the neck cavity, really seals it off so it steams even better! :)

You can do it in the oven, too. 325 degreesF, 1hr 45min. Smells great, tastes better. Make some rub for the outside of the chicken, and put whats left in the beer can before you start cooking. Yum!!

Wash the can, then spray it with "pam" or some other aerosol grease. It helps the chicken to not stick as much.

I don't think I'd want to eat anything that had been cooked around a beer can with a widget inside though. :)
