Abandoned horse

Hello all,

This fellow's owners moved and left him behind. He looks so morose. This is my first attempt to capture a mood (as opposed to just snapping pics of pleasant scenes) so I'd love to hear any criticisms or suggestions you have to offer. Thanks in advance!

In general I like the mood but I find the angle of the horses legs and the angle of the tree trunk in the background distracting.

Maybe adding a bit of artificial DOF would eliminate that, not sure though.
