to get an internal card reader for pc?

I thinking about getting an internal card reader for my pc. Apart from being pretty damn cool to have that on your pc, I'm also wondering whether it would read and get photos of my camera quicker than just connected to the camera through that cord they give you. I have a feeling the real bottleneck is the speed of the card itself, but just thought I'd ask.

Well, I can tell you that using an internal card reader is the way to go, although it works the same way as an external one. Basically the one I have just has a usb cable in the back (internal side) that plugs into the motherboard or a usb pci card. I don't know that it would be quicker if you camera is new enough to support USB 2.0. It would probably be the same speed, all things being equal. I hate having to deal with cables, so i just got the internal reader, and with usb 2.0 and a kingston elite pro card (fast, but not the fastest) it only takes like 5 minutes to transfer a 4gb card (if memory serves me). It is really quick. Hope this helps.

Hi. I have a card reader (reads lots of types of card) built into my Printer. This transferes the images direct to my Mac. I'm sure the speed of the card has a lot to do with time from reader to card... but I wondered if the download software makes a difference.
My printer has a choice to down load via or to scan to. When this goes to Photoshop it seems a little faster than when it downloads to the auto software on the Mac or that which came with the Printer.
Don't know if any techy out there has done a comparison test.
Be interested though.

MItsumi makes a combo floppy/card reader that plugs into a USB connection on your motherboard. As long as you plug it into a USB 2.0 connection you won't suffer on speed.

You're usually limted by the speed of the card. If you are using a Sandisk Extreme IV CF card the Sandisk Extreme firewire reader is the ticket for you. Requires a firewire 800 port for optimal speed.

It will be much faster if the card reader (internal or external) plugs into the firewire port on your motherboard rather than USB.
