Here are a few pictures I took with my S3 at last night's July 4th celebration. I used the fireworks setting on the camewra (which used a shutter speed of 2 sec. and an aperature of F/8). I had my camera on a tripod and used the 2 sec. timer delay. As soon as I hear them launch the firework, I would press the shutter.

Edd those are great!! I like the colors in the first one, but they really turned out great! I still have yet to try to take a picture of fireworks. Thanks for sharing.

Here's several I took last night as well...My observation point was not ideal with the trees, but I thought these were pretty good. My hit / miss ratio was about 1 good shot to 10 bad ones.

Both have posted some very nice shots. Tracking with a tripod was my main problem with no time to lock it down in time.
I think the tree situation adds a bit of character to the photos.

Edd, that second one took me by surprise! It's so bold, I love it.

Yay for my first post! This was my first time shooting fireworks and took a few to get the hang of it. The wind was blowing pretty hard and I think they may have come out better if it was not so windy. C+C always welcome!
EDIT: These were taken with a 400D and kit lens.

Thanks for the compliments and comments.
As to suggestions - I am far from an expert (this being only the second time I have ever shot fireworks).
One thing I neglected to mention was that I had the camera locked in position where most of the fireworks were exploding. That way, when I heard the "fwoom" of the fireworks being launched, I could press the shutter and two seconds later the camera would take the picture. The timing was usually pretty close.
Great pictures submited by everyone else in this thread, as well!

Carolys,
Please pardon my ignorance, but I'm not sure what the equalivant camera model is here in the USA.
Here's what I did, and you should be able to use the same or similar settings on you camera if it has a Manual mode...
camera settings:
ISO = 50
white balance = daylight
drive mode = 2 sec delay
color setting = vivid
exposure = 2 sec.
F/2.8 (or the widest you can get with your camera / zoom)
focus = use manual focus to focus to infinity
mount camera on a tripod and pre aim where you are expecting the fireworks to 'pop'. You may need to adjust your aim after they start.
When you see / hear the show start, press the shutter release button. Check for framing, overexposure, etc...and keep shooting. Take LOTS of photos, because as I indicated on my first post, I got about 1 in 10 that were worth keeping.
