My Canon EOS 20D takes a CF card. My daughter's Kodak Easy Share takes a SD Card.
I need to buy both. I looked for the cheapest prices and WalMart.com has the cheapest prices for the "no-name" brands. My son tells me that cheap price means cheap quality. IS THIS TRUE?
I need to buy these two memory cards in the very near future.
Can you make a suggestion?
Thanks so much!

IS THIS TRUE?
Yes.
I've had very good luck with SanDisk Ultra II card in my Canon cameras.

I think your son is correct - the source of the cheap cards is not known the quality can be questionable. I use SanDisk cards - "Ultra II's" there are newer, faster ones - Ultra III and Ultra IV and more expensize. Try newegg.com as a source. They usually have good prices and are reliable (or... wwwbhphoto.com). Good luck, Dennis

Your 20D's performance will suffer with a cheap (slow) CF card. A year ago I bought an extra 1GB Kingston CF card for my 300D and found writing to the card after a shot was much slower than with my earlier 512M card. I got a Sandisk Ultra II card and my camera is much faster.
Your 20D is faster than my 300D by quite a bit and should have a card at least as fast as the Ultra II.

Mojo, check the 'market watch' forum (waay down at the bottom). You'll see regular tips on where to buy the best cards at the best prices. I managed to score an 8GB Ultra III for $60 recently. I also use Ultra IIs and Kingston Pro stuff. Write speed can be important, but reliability certainly is.

Speed isn't as important with the P&S however, just get a known brand and you should be fine.

I'd also keep away from ebay as well - lots of reported 'fake' Sandisk (and other?) cards:
