I got a chance to break in my 70-200 2.8 IS lens this weekend at a local bodybuilding show in NYC. I had 2 friends competing in the show. I spoke with the promoter of the show and he had no problem with NON-professional photography. After reviewing the shots I took, a lot of them really came out great. The question is...should I submit a portfolio of the pics taken to the editor of the magazine that put on the show? I'm not a "professional" but I would like to possibly pick up some freelance work for this publication. Any advice would be helpful.

Never hurts to give it a shot ... I work for a newspaper and we've accepted submissions from and ran shots from freelancers who were at the same events as our staff photogs ... who knows, it might even lead to assignments ...
good luck,
jim
