I have the set of Kenko extension tubes. They come as a set, and are less expensive than the Canon tubes. Since there are no optics involved, the most important aspect is the electrical contacts, and they seem to be fine. I have had them on the camera, but I have not yet shot any images.
They are generally available. Check B&H, KEH, or your local camera store.
Have Fun,

Well the nice thing is, with the 50mm 1.8 on the rebel, thats 80mm after mag, then with 2X thats 160mm, and I wish I had kept my tamron 2X til i had my 50mm 1.8, cuz prior to the 50mm , I couldnt really autofocus that well due to the stop of light loss from the tele convertor.
By the way, arnt the canon extension tubes, only meant for the L series glass, and even then dont some of them turn off the Autofocus automatically.

You are confusing extension tubes (that are nothing but tubes with no glass and provide macro/close-up capability by moving the lens away from the sensor) with extenders - sometimes called tele-converters - that do have additional optics and increase the focal length of the lens.

You can use them with telephoto and zoom lenses. I shot some flowers at a botanical garden with the Canon EF25 II extension tube with my 70-200f4.0L lens to get shots of flowers.
Seems that you rough focus with the zoom in this instance, and then the camera does the fine focus via AF.
