Lee filter holder/ring (putting it on the lens)

This seems stupid, but I can't seem to really get my filter holder + ring on the lens (10-22). It obviously doesn't seem to screw on, how do you guys get it on there? Do you put the ring on the lens then the filter holder each time or do you just keep the filter holder + ring together and put that whole assembly on the lens?

How do you know when it is on securely?

It's not a stupid question. I've yet to buy a filter holder because I don't know how to use one either.

You screw the ring on the lens. Then you place the holder onto the ring by pulling on the knob. If you can't screw the ring onto the lens, then something's very wrong.

Thanks SYS, I got it now. The thing is, I can screw on the ring and then put on the holder fine. But I wanted to attach the ring to the holder then screw the whole assembly on, which I guess is a lot harder since I can't figure out why it won't work. Oh well.

Edit: I got this thing figured out now, its a bit tricky but I can get the ring and then the holder on in a matter of seconds now, as opposed to minutes. So it looks like I will get to try my new filters out tommorrow morning :D

P.S. SYS, your post and Rammy's were very helpful in my filter decision, and also my realizing that I needed GNDs. Thanks for the informative posts :)
