I know it's a bit early for the seasons but I need to start saving my money for a lens. What would be the best lens for skiing and snowboaring races and competitions? I would also like to use the same lens for other sports such as baseball and football.
Any recommendations is much appreciated.

Well it looks like the only thing your lacking is super wide ...my choice is (15mm fisheye) for your body ...or long like the 100-400 is/ both great for sports in there respective outdoor usages.

I know they are very expensive, but it seems that the two lenses of choice for Baseball & football photogs are the 300 & 400 f/2.8's. :)

Hands down has to be one of the best winter sport shooters I've seen here.

Frank, I think you got a pretty good collection there already. Admittedly I've not shot winter sports, but from what I've seen on TV etc. you can get relatively close to the action, I'd bet the 70-200 is going to be the best. If you are farther away maybe a 100-400 which at 4.5 - 5.0 is going to be fine in outdoor winter sun/snow. You might consider 1.4 ex for use on the 70-200.

it depends a bit on what element of ski-ing or snowboarding you want to capture..
Rail shots or close to the action shooting use the fisheye (ala skateboarding) .
Large hits or those lovely powder shots in chutes or cliff drops, the chances are you're going to be standing further away.
This is me talking as a snowboarder, rather than a photographer though...
