Hi,

Just wondering whether anybody has tried using opticlean to clean their sensors.

What is in Opticlean?
Most recommendations for sensor cleaning include Eclipse Solution which is supposed to be highly purified Methanol. I used it this past weekend to clean all my lenses. Just one to two drops and a Pec Pad did the trick with absolutely no residue.

Opticlean is a liquid polymer. You will apply opticlean to the glass surface and subsequently peel it off (using tape) and all the dust will be lifted up.

No, I haven't tried it and from your description I don't think I would want to... The sensor is not that easy to get to and the chance of you leaving some deposits on there would seem fairly high.

I'm no physicist, but from the web page you linked, it seems that you must exert an upward force on the polymer with an adhesive tab to remove the polymer. Depending on how much that force is and how unevenly it is distributed, might you not lift or move the AA filter or sensor, moving it out of alignment?

I used Opticlean a few years ago on some of my older lenses (non-L I hasten to add!) and whilst it produced some great results on the lens glass I wouldn't trust it on the extremely sensitive sensor.

Cheers,
