Hello everyone,

Can anyone recommend a good studio wind machine that is not too expensive (<$1000).

Thanks in advance.

Can't you use a regular fan? Or are they too weak?

Go to Home Depot or someplace like that and get a stand fan designed for industrial use. You'll probably pay a lot less for it and it will work just as well.

That's kind of what I was thinking. It's only a nasty solution if it was in a greasy garage first. :)

You may want to chuck some form of variable speed drive on the fan. i.e. speed control like a dimmer switch. This might give you better control of the speed of the fan than the usual slow, medium, and fast.

you can use a house hold fan youll just need a shroud for it build one out of cardboard will work fine

Good idea. I'll give that a try. That will probably save me a ton of cash.

By the way does anyone know the functional difference between a portable fan from home depot and say a bowens jet stream or a mole-richardson wind machine?

I'm just wondering if it's just a brand, low noise and durability thing, or a significant difference in the special effect you will see in the picture.

Thanks again.

its just amount of power how ever if you shroud it you'll get improved results so long as you dont want a really wide shot youll be fine

Mcmaster-Carr (http://www.mcmaster.com/)has a large selection of industrial fans; you should be able to find something good there.
