I know it's hardly motorsport but it does have an engine and you could race it so I guess it just about fits the rules.

Anyway... I went out with my Son yesterday, He's 31 but an overgrown kid at heart (just like the rest of us I guess), mostly he's into RC aircraft, but this time he wanted to try out a truck. It's absolutely mad. Two forward gears and reverse, runs off some kind of nitro mix and goes like stink!

Taken on the 1DIIn with a 200mm f/2.8. TV at 1/500, mostly around f/5.6 with AI servo. All probably cropped around 50% or so. I had a hell of a time just keeping it in the frame let alone thinking about nice composition. Great fun though! But I think I'll give the 300mm a try next time.

Is that the traxxas tmaxx?

I asked the question, and it turns out that it's a Team Associates Monster GT. Made in the USA. Other than that I've no idea if it's a well known make or not?

Many thanks to everyone for the comments. I think the IQ has suffered a bit because I had to crop so much, I'm pleased with them but I definitely need more practice, and I'll certainly try a slightly longer lens next time! But I was surprised how well the AI servo focussing coped with the majority of the shots.

cheers

<Geek alert>

Team Associated actually, and they are probably the best-known RC manufacturer. If you discount Tamiya. I used to race for them a few years back.

</geek alert>

Great shots btw. I must find some local races and get shooting some of this stuff myself.

wow I've always wanted one of the RC race trucks,

My money always seemed to end up getting spent on photography gear :rolleyes:

The gravel in number one completely makes the picture, CONGRATS.

And number two is he going into the fall or is he coming out of it onto all fours?
It keeps me guessing.

Great job

check out the Revo. it is extremely fast and suspension setup like a serpent. Shocks lay down with rockers instead of straight up. I raced one for a couple years, handles extremely well and very fast.

NICE PICS BTW. I tried shooting R/C stuff a couple times but it is worse than firwworks in my opinion...

Yeah, I just got rid of my 2.5r revo. The thing was a beast. I might get another one down the road.

I've got to put my Mammoth ST back together after cleaning every part. I've also dropped in a larger motor (XTM 457) which will make it alot quicker. I'll have to find someone I trust not to crash it to drive it over some jumps and take some pics.

I have a TMaxx, With my radar gun, I've clocked it on a straightaway going 25Mph on pavement, shortly after it lost control and slammed into the curb, which broke the gas tank. Cost me $20 to fix and about 15 minutes. It is not meant to travel in a straight line too long. I also have a Mongoose, it is a AWD Sedan that runs on Nitro fuel. I've clocked that going over 50 MPH! It's average speed while driven by an above average driver is about 40-45 MPH on a road track.

very cool shots there. I also have a few of them for me and my sons...Those little R/C toys can drain your wallet in a big hurry though!

I never realised they were so expensive... But if your all saying it's a bigger money pit than photography it must be!

Anyway, here's a couple more from the same shoot. Nothing special, it was good fun but harder than I thought to get anything half way decent.

both are great photos!

I'd love to get into this hobby, but I think photography, computers, and cars already are sucking down enough of the money haha
