This question is geared more towards the legal aspects of sports photography.

Would I need consent from the subjects or their parents if I was taking photos in a public skate park?

In my experience, the answer would be no, unless you are trying to advertise or sell the pictures. If they are under 18, you would need a parental release and if they are at least 18 then you need their consent in order to sell/advertise.

Also, if you are on private property (even if it is a public skate park) you might want to be sure it's ok with the owner/operator, as they can/might call police or security and you do not, unfortunately, want to argue because next thing you know, whether right or wrong, you could end up in jail or sued over something minor.

Ask first. Nothing worse than some random person taking photos of you out of nowhere.
