The wife was going through some old photographs in a box and she came across these images that I took in my late teens. First few are the Tragically Hip in 1984 (Date was on the back of the prints)and the second set are a freinds band Called AnA Black taken probably late 80's. All are scans and were not great pics to start with but I just found it interesting that after 20 plus years I am back shooting bands again.

I got a kick out of the hair on the girl in set 1 #5. Turns out I work with her husband, and I dated her around that time which is why I took the picture, and I know this because I was in the guys office one day and saw a much more recent picture of her and asked how he knew her. Fate is strange sometimes. One thing that I thought was interesting to was all these were done with film and manual focus.

nice one.
i think the only times i ever took a camera to a gig prior to 2006 was twice, about 15 years ago, for Gas Huffer and Zeni Geva. the camera was a real cheap Nikon film camera, and the shots are flashed out to death. still, i recall i got a decent snap of KK Null and Tabata in full hair swing. i should dig out my box of old photos and sift through.

Well bear in mind this was late 80's and I know the camera was fully manual and so was the lens and I was about 18 years old and probably not hmm sober shall we say.. I am impressed I got the picture at all. lol Oh and they are scans as well so the focus could be lost a little in the process. I don't care really they are just fun and gigles that I posted them. I used to live with that band in the second set for a while. Oh wow the memories that are coming now are incredible.

My Bad, I misunderstood your comments. I do that on now and then. This whole thread has me on a mission now to find all the old Kim Mitchell and Lee Aron pictures I took when I was about 16. I can compare the Ki Mitchell pics to the ones I just posted in another thread I took a couple weeks ago. It is so interesting to see the old pics and get the memories coming back. I welcome any one lese to post some of their 20+ year ols images.

These are simply wizard! Like Suicide (geez, I wish you'd put a name in your .sig or something ... I'll just start calling you Su for short I guess, sigh) I love the hair. And in these ageless bits of nostalgia we always forgive all technical deficiencies and concentrate solely on the content, which is much better than anything you've done lately.

I think these are hilarious. I like looking through pictures from one year ago, so I can totally understand how this would be fun for you!
I cannot look through pictures from twenty years ago, since I was probably using a fake Playskool camera in my crib. :-)

Dwight, your are to funny. ;) But with saying that I do find if interesting how the second set of three, the composition is very similar to what is looked for in todays standard. I guess these things don't really change all to much over time. SO I guess learing composition at 18 years old in the early 80's with no mentor or training seems to mean that is was learned from looking at rock magazines and posters or Album/Cassette (not CD) backs and inserts. Found some of Kim Mittchell and Lee Aron (remember her? Metal Queen was a big song) but they are just to blurry and bad to even post.

There is no "too blurry" for any images over ten years old ... bring 'em on and we'll use our imaginations ... that's what they're for! There's never too much nostalgia.
