Grey Eye Glances at some park in New Jersey I can't recall the name of.
The first show I've made it to this year, I've really been slacking...
Nice little stage in the park, I got a pretty good spot right up front (but apparently in the middle of an ant farm).

Opening act Carsie Blanton.

GEG guitarist Brett Kull (he also plays in prog-rock band Echolyn)

GEG vocalist/guitarist/keyboardist Jennifer Noble, you can tell they were still setting up 'cause she's got her shoes on.

Jennifer again, in her typical barefoot fashion.

And Jennifer one more time (okay, so I sorta focused on her) at the keyboard.

I personally like the last two photos... The full guitar in each pic is a real plus too... good job.

wow, I haven't been to a show this laid back in a long time. Flip flops and bare feet on stage. most seem a little soft, last one is the best.

Thanks for the comments.
Yes, it was a laid back show.. I like laid back, can't take big crowds and unapproachable artists..

Seems like I'm still having the same problem with soft pictures I've had before, not really sure what to do... looking at a new telephoto lens, maybe that'll help.
For the last pic I was able to get closer than I was on the earlier ones, I think that might have made the difference.. it had however, gotten rather dark by that point in the show, you should see the way that one looked right out of the camera.. very dark and orangish.. I'm surprised I was able to get it as good as I did.

very dark and orangish..

Read up a bit on light metering and white balance...

Some nice moments (first and last two), some odd crops. (mostly too wide.) Get closer to where the action is. Gives more interesting images IMO.
As you noted, not all are sharp. On #1, the focus is off, on #4 (probabely # 5 as well) it's camera shake.

Don't be afraid to use higher ISO....

Argh!!!! It's been so long since I used the camera I forgot all about checking the ISO setting, had it on 100 the whole time. [doh!]

Now, if I'm shooting in RAW the white balance setting isn't that big of a deal, since I can change it in post processing, but in JPG I'm stuck with the setting they're shot at, correct?

I'm going to have to study up on composition I guess.. I think I tend to try not to have the subject dead center, so I leave too much on the sides.

For the record, #4 is my fav despite being a bit soft, I just love that pose.

Been there, done that ;)

Yep.
In camera parameters will affect the histogram and preview, even when shooting RAW however... So I always try to be not too far of.

Experiment away! You can off course crop images, to see what you like. (Easier then to add BG that isn't there ;))

Agreed.

Well, since there was not a single "pity about" in Rene's review I can assure you that these are all adequate! :-) It would be nice if you could leave EXIF information in the images as it makes it much easier to see what the camera thought and make suggestions based on that. I would urge that you read the FAQ near the top of the list of threads in this forum.

Personally I would like a little descriptive text about each event, band member, band, venue or what have you to add a little flavor/spice to the image sets ... while it is primarily about sharing images knowing what is going on is very appealing.
