What would the recommended setup be for some nudie/softcore porn studio work?

First things first,

You need to put up a large viewing platform and then send everyone here an invitation.

And of corse we will all need to see examples just to make sure that your equipment is set up correctly

Other then that I am not much help.

You may want to try a different topic name.. something about portrait lighting perhaps. There may be people who know all about the sort of lighting set up you are looking for that just aren't going to look at this thread?

... perhaps?

Light....lots of light...

If your just going for content, and not artistic content, fill the room with light. There is a guy on photosig that does really great work using the shop lights from Home Depot (DIY home shop). You might want to check there.

Just my 2 bits...

There are 2 types of "Glamour" photo:
A- Hired model who has a perfect figure and you're shooting for, let's say, Maxim magazine.
B- A spouse who wants to rekindle the burning desire by hiring you to take some risky shots of him or her.
In scenario A, your lighting should be bright to show off all of those "special features" that you dearly paid for. The lightings are almost always large lightboxes or reflective panels. Simple background and poses are often used because the focus is the body.
In scenario B, your lighting should be selective to HIDE unwanted imperfections. Smaller lightboxes and flags are used to highlight specific areas. Gels are used to iluminate but divert attention to other areas. Posing and props are much more important to these shots.

last time i checked, there weren't many artists in the market for the product. get whatever light you can - and shoot for content not creativety.

Well, I take decent portraits, and recently had
a noobie experience shooting nudes.

What I found out is that it is extremely easy to
take porn type photos, but extremely hard to
do sensuous, graceful nudes.

Taking porn pics takes no skill whatsoever.
I was trying to be an artiste, it made me pissed
that so many of my failed attempts at nudes
came off looking like porn! I had a goodlooking,
cooperative model, but out of a two and half
hour session and a couple hundred shots, there
were only two or three shots I would have
considered of marginal artistic value. The rest,
I'm afraid, were porn magazine worthy. ****! :-)

(If it's ok with you guys, I'll post samples here
for your evaluation.)

Cheers, Cadenza

Porn is too easy!
set your camera to extremely red velvia-like colour and snap away :P :P
But doing anything remotely nice looking is,as candenza says, quite a challenge.Do some searches on playboy shoots to see what you find.I've heard they go nuts with multiple softlights and such

OK,

So tell me which of these pics are artsy, and
which ones look like porn. Remember this
was just an exercise, and the first time I've
shot male nudes.

So how do you do artistic nudes without slapping
on tons of filters and special effects? I wanted
a spontaneous feel. If you think these look like
porn, you shoulda seen the other ones.

So here's the link: nude or porn? (R-rated, explicit)

[Sorry, to discourage misuse, I'm only posting
small samples.]

AK024
and AK075 are both artistic and tastefull

as you mention'd.. a guy grabbing his junk is porno....

but i really like those two listed..

ron chappel

Sorry to say it but those are neither artistic or tastefull (they do vary though-the guy facing away turning the shower tap isn't too bad)
Come to think of it,that series looks like a gay's holiday snapshots
I have seen some very good male nudes .The best was an old guy, full frontal and it was the subtleties of the facial expression combined with the 'brutatlity' of a sagging old body.
It was a strange one-i think i also felt some son to father respect....

Herb Ritts......

Say no more, I don't know of any other photographer that has achieved so much with the naked human form..... So if you wanna be the greatest porn photographer ever then study Herb's masterery of the the medium.....

"AK075" probably sneaks in as "artsy". The rest are not, in my opinion. Saying that, the line between "art" and "porn" is very much in the eye of the beholder.

Perhaps you'd be better off posting to a forum with users that might have more experience in this area. Here's a place to start:

The site www.photosig.com is pretty good as there are many guys who do this kinda stuff.

The site seems to be down today, but check it out when it comes back on.

Great Link...Any more?
Just a quick look through there, I saw bad shots and good shots, both add quite a bit to my knowledge of posing subjects.

Thanks,
