Boy are these little guys tough to get. They almost have a sense and just as you about to press the shutter, they flit right out of there. This one was a little tyrant. Kept all the other hummers away.

Apply slide rotation to the sugar plum and snap that picture. ;)
Nice catch GJL. He looks like the old bull of the hummingbird woods, worn out from defending his little flower patch. :)

Nice shot! Did you use any type of flash to get the shot? The details in the feathers are great!

Thanx for the comments. He was one tough little bird chasing all others away. I set up a lawn chair and watched this guy for almost an hour. Every once in a while he would take off chasing someone and two others would sneak in but he soon returned ready for a fight. I did use a fill flash bounced off of an index card though this little bugger was in full sun. It looked too contrasty without the fill.

I personally find the crop too tight, but still a dynomite shot!

Great shot, I agree with Daniel about the breathing room.

I'm impressed. That's some shot. If you don't mind would you tell your settings on the camera and flash? I have a 550 ex that hasn't gotten enough use and would like this recipe:)
