I'm looking for a 19" CRT monitor. I have spent the evening searching the internet and I have to say I'm more confused than I was before I started

I have a budget of £150 to £200 and would be happy to buy online in the uk. I don't game really. It would be used for Post Processing (PS) and web browsing plus a little word processing etc.

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

TIA David.....

Here's what to look for..

19" CRT is a perfect place to start.

The next spec you need is it has to be an "Aperture Grill" (NOT a "Shadow Mask" or "Invar")

... that 'll narrow it down to only good 19" monitors right off the bat...

Then it's a matter of brand and features..

I prefer Sony, but Mitsubishi, NEC, and LaCie are all good too. Even SamSung makes some decent affordable ones.

Hope this helps.

Hope this helps

Thanks for your reply. The "Aperture Grill" part really helped narrow down my choices. I'm looking at a Mitsubishi monitor at the moment.

The Diamond Plus 93SB @ £200

I use a screen size of 800 by 600 at the moment on my 17" moniter. What screen size could I expect to use on a 19" moniter.

You should be okay with 1024 X 768 on a 19".

LaCie's are the best monitors I ever used, the color reproduction is amazing, better than the sony's we had at work. Personally I think 1280x960 px is a good res to use on a 19".

Another thing that's important to check, especially if you look at cheap screens, is the refresh rate. Check that it handles at least 85 Hz at the largest res you think you'll ever use, preferably more. Even if you don't think you see the flicker it's there and your eyes and head grow weary from it.

CRT...well minus your budget

http://www.viewsonic.com/products/desktopdisplays/crtmonitors/aseries/a90fplus/

end of story

i had dual ViewSonics with video ports int he back at my work desk, sweet setup, thats a newer model i believe...they are ranked #1 in most reviews and many many many many many many many professional designers I know would say they are the only CRT you should ever look at when considering such a topic, pretty much I would say its close to an industry standard

but...im a trator and am a hardcore LCD fan now, its so much easier on my eyes since i sit at my desk 24/7 in front of the computer

personally i couldnt live without a high end monitor, id keep saving till i could get the one I really knew would suit me best

Viewsonics are a very good value.. but they are simply someone elses parts wrapped in there name.. often for a few dollars less...

No.. I'd rank Viewsonic below LaCie,. Mitsubishi and Sony all the time..

I have a 21" viewSonic p815 (was there top model a few years back)sitting on a table next to my Sony's as I type.. it WAS my main monitor before the Sony's.. now it is collecting dust.
