For more than fifty years visitors to Asbury Park, N.J. were greeted
with his image, which graced the front of the Palace Amusement Arcade
across the street from the boardwalk and the Asbury Casino. Many a postcard bearing his likeness was sent to points worldwide by tourists
who visited this once-famous resort. Today, they took him down before
proceeding with the demolition of the rest of the building.
I have no idea what is planned for Tilley, probably some kind of restoration.

You have a wider shot of that or some other shots around there Rick? Interesting stuff to look at for sure. Lot of history sitting on that lowboy!

Unfortunately, no, Chev. I was lucky to get the this one. Fact is, I was in
Asbury yesterday totally oblivious to the Tilley event. I had shot my whole
1GB Sandisk and was leaving the boardwalk, when (I swear) a guy in
a scuba diving outfit walks by, looks at my camera and 100-400mm, and
says to me, "Did you get a picture of Tilley? She's coming down today."
So I walked over to the arcade on the off chance that something of worth might be left to shoot, and this post was one of the shots, Funny thing is,
I took about a half dozen shot of the torn down rear section three hours before without ever realizing what was happening out front. And I did see
three or four cop cars with their lights flashing out front as I was passing by, but I saw no action or accidents, so I continued onto the boardwalk to
do my shooting, which was my original purpose. Too bad for me.
The Asbury Park Press had a wonderful foto of the whole scene taken with
a wide angle. Check it out at http://www.app.com/. The link is at the upper right corner of the page. The link to the story, itself, doesn't seem to work.
Actually, I do have something, here. Not very good to the uninitiated, but if you ever were in Asbury during the Palace Amusements' heyday, then
the fotos should mean something to you. Were you ever by any chance?

Tilly is safe, being preserved in a warehouse in Jackson.
