My neighbors Daylilys are comming in fast. I grabbed the camera and headed out this afternoon to get a few shots. Wow they were nice. Thought, well why not try Raw again :? Haven't worked on that for a while. Set up the camera and took about 100 pic's. Spent about 1 hour in 90 degree heat but felt I had some great shots. Went home loaded the CF in the reader and selected copy and convert. The door bell rang so I hit enter and went to the door. When my friend left I came badk and found the copy had finished. Being confident in my abilities with a computer I just reformated the CF and came back to work on the new images. OMG I had only selected 1 image to transfer and I had reformated the CF
Ok back in the heat trying to retake the pic's I had just trashed.
I am sure glad I am the only dope here :D
New procedured...Make DA#$ sure files transfered before formating CF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If its bad and can be done with a computer, I've probably done it.
I actually deleted the operating system (DOS) on a desktop computer at work several years ago. And, I did this after Bill Gates practically asked me personally if I was sure that this was what I wanted to do. I clicked yes and watched the machine reach a state where a "C:/" prompt would have been welcome.
They gave me a nickname after that - "delete *.*", pronounced "delete splat-dot-splat". :)

I think there are programs that can still recover the images from the card even tho you have reformatted it. I could be wrong tho.

Wait!! You can most likely rescue your photos with this (as long as you didn't use the CF card for new photos): PhotoRescue (http://www.datarescue.com/photorescue/)
When you format a CF card, the data doesn't really get deleted from the card. The only thing that happens is that the computer makes the directory on the card empty and marks all the data blocks on the card as being free to be overwritten with new data. As long as you didn't record any new data on the card, the photos will still be there. PhotoRescue is smart enough to search the card and restore the directory.
I format my CF cards not immediately after transferring the images to the computer, but just before I'm going out to shoot. Sometimes I forget to format, and the old photos are still on the card together with the new ones - in that case I have to manually delete the old ones one by one, but that's not as bad as loosing photos...

 I've done the same thing... on a Netware 3 file server, a VAX 8820 (VMS) and a Sun 3/180 file server (Berkley 4.2). Judging by the age of those systems you can see I haven't done it in a while.
Mind you... I so nearly hit the "erase all" button on a 1GB compact flash the other day....
