I took this picture of one of our city's indigent.
I converted to Black and White and added noise.
Does this work for you? All comments appreciated.

I like it
BW was deffinatly the way to go
I woulld have masked off his body and not added as much noise, it ends up making it look like you were using a 2MP camera, but the noise/grain add's a nice touch to the background

I like it, but perhaps with a little less noise?

Great shot overall. I really like the composition but am not keen on the noise either. I don't know why, it should have worked, because of the subject, but I would prefer it without.

I like it as it is with the noise.
Is it cropped? Do you have the original you could post?
I have something in my mind but don't know yet if it would work.

I think it would have been better with more going on in the shot.
What I mean is, if you had, say placed the man in the foreground, and had a bustling city in the background... showing how life keeps moving right by, as people sleep on the very streets life is being lived upon.
I'm not very hip on photos of homeless people, unless they're done in good taste, with a bit of a story to tell... not just for the sake of a "good" photo. Art is very subjective however, and is viewed differently by all.
I'm with the others on the noise being a bit much. Being that I know it was taken with a digital camera (or assume, because this is a digital photog forum), my mind automatically sees the noise as an ill effect of a high ISO setting. If you want to pull that "grainy homeless" effect off, you need to shoot with a Leica  :p
