I'm buying a new Slingshot, but I don't want to overspend. Please take a look at my sig to see my gear list. Take note of the huge 24-70mm L and its monstrous hood. Please take into account everything that I have and want.

So, will my stuff fit in the 100 or 200?

Consider this; I put the equipment in my signature in my bag. All the important things like body, four lenses, two filters, one spare battery + charger, angle finder, tubes and Extender fit into the main compartment of my Slingshot 300AW.

I use the small lower pouch for cleaning supplies and my remote. I use the larger top compartment for a kneeling pad (flower closeups), and a one litre water bottle in a sealed plastic bag (guarding against a leak). I might get a 70/200 into the top compartment, but then I'd have to leave my lunch at home.;)

Note that I don't even have a flash.

I suggest you might want to consider at least one size larger than the 100 AW.

My first bag was a Toploader 65 AW; then I added a lens case, then another, then another, then another, then two small ones for the tubes and Extender. But it was too damn awkward, and the combination cost me a lot more than if I had started with an oversize bag in the first place (the 300); which would soon have been filled (I bought the camera and first lens in Sept 06).

Obviously the Tripod and Lightroom don't go in the bag, but I could squeeze a rocket blower in.

I bought the 100 and really liked the design, but it was not big enough for my gear so I swapped it out for the 200. The 200 works just about perfectly for my setup with little room to spare, but everything is nicely protected.

What you have now will fit in the 100, you should be able to add the Sigma 8mm, but I don't think you can get that and another long lenses like the 70-200mm into the 100. You'll really have to pack it in and if you can make it fit the gear won't be protected from rubbing against it's self. With stuff jammed in there I'd be nervous everytime I opened the case that something would fall out.

You definitely need the 200 at least.

I have the 200aw and pack the 70-200 f.2.8 with hood (reversed) and a 100mm macro, and tokina 12-24. Take a look at this 200AW. (http://www.cambags.com/nikon/d70/slingshot/lowepro_slingshot_200_frames.htm)

The 200 will go a long ways for growing more equipment, heck after 5-6 months and you still have the same kit, check to make sure you have not added any kids or other "New" family members. :)

I suggest you get the 200. I have that bag and it's perfect base on the gear on your list.

Does anyone know how I will have to configure the 30D + 24-70 w/ hood (most likely reversed), or how snug it will fit? If that fits will I able able to fit a 70-200 and an 8mm prime?

I have the 200Aw with a 5D + 24-70L hood reversed, I fit that puppy right in the middle and pack everything else in around it.

BUT here is what alot tend to forget with these bags, its not all that wise to cram EVERY camera lens, body, accessory, etc etc into this bag.

I found even for me, who can handle a lot of weight, that packing the bag with all my gear and strapping it across one shoulder will get a little bothersome. Even using the extra "weight bearing" strap isnt helpful at relieving the weight.

So its best to just pack up what you need and head out. Which by the looks of what you have isnt all that far off from what I have, but just thinking about putting the 70-200L in there, could get a little uncomfy.

I carry my 5D w/ 24-70L (hood reversed) + 430EX and Im set. Still really like the bag, the 'raincoat' came in REALLY handy recently.

Here is a shot you requested of my bag setup.

As you see the camera and lens takes up a nice chunk of the space.
Now on the right of the camera/lens combo is where I keep the 430EX and on the left would be the 85mm lens (XT + 85 was used to get this shot), but as you can tell there is a little more room for length. Possibly for the 70-200L, im not sure I havent been able to get a hold of one to find out.

Now Im sure you could put the 430EX in the top section of the bag, I, on the other hand, keep my rocket blower, lens cleaning kit, rubber lens hood for the 85, & a battery holder for the XT grip in there.

And in the pocket on the outside of the main flap, I keep release switches for both camera bodies, business cards, pens, writting pads, some extra batteries, and maybe some more nik-naks.

The little tiny pocket on the inside of the flap I keep the memory cards of course:D

Hope this helps, Im sure with some (limited) rearraning, you might find some more room in there for a few more extras.

Then again, like many will tell you on here, having just ONE bag isnt suffice, I know I will get another bag sooner or later, for now, walkarounds, on location portraits, and the ONE wedding I did do, this bag did well.

Glenn. How do you like the 300. I have the 200 now and when I get my next lens I will need to upgrade. A local shop just got the 300 for a real good deal. I may be tempted.
Thanks.

Well, I looked at the 200 and realized that it just wasn't big enough, and the 300 would be needed for my gear. All the gear in my sig is in the bag PLUS spare battery, charger, manual, two filter cases and sensor and lens cleaning kit - I travel with everything, and I think it is airline friendly as for size.

Looking at the post by "thekid 24" you'll notice that the lens and camera take up the full width of the 200 - I can put another lens at the end where his lens ends (the Tokina goes there primarly because I use it the least).

Another advantage of the 300 over the smaller ones is that it has a waist belt which stabilizes it (one poster mentioned that he could handle it on his motorcycle).

I've added a second shoulder strap to share the load on both shoulders; it means one more buckle to undo to access the bag, but according to my right shoulder it was a good idea. The left shoulder now helps out.:)

I can't link any pics on the forum, but for anyone that is interested, I can e-mail six JPEGs that show how it was modified. I bought a Lowepro belt, took it to a shoe repair shop, and showed them what I wanted.

Just PM me your e-mail address and I will send the pics. And if you want, you can post them for everyone to see.

If you click the link in my signature, you will see how much gear can fit into the 200. But my stuff would never fit into the 100. For you, I would definitely get the 200. 300 if you want room to grow.

I ordered the 200 AW a couple of days ago. When I pick up my 50mm, i'll post pictures about my set up and how I like it. Thanks everyone for your advice.

I've never used the 100, but my 200 fits 3 bodies (no grips attached/1D series) with lenses attached (10-22, 17-55, 70-200/4), a 580EX and some spare batteries, cards, ND grads etc.

Great! Thanks to know. You can see my gear list (haves and wants) down there. I hope it can all fit!

Yeah, you'll be able to fit all of that in the 200 for sure.

I'm a little wary about the lens hood for the 24-70. It's huge.
I'm planning to set it up like this: (including my wants.)

Main compartment- 30D + 24-70 attached, 70-200 laying down on one side, the two primes standing up separated by a divider on another side.

Top compartment - 430EX, Rocket Blower, Off-Shoe Flash Cord

EDIT:
I received it in the mail today. It's a nice bag that's put together well, but I'm still trying to organize things in it. The 24-70's hood is more than cumbersome in the bag, and fills up an entire slot. I put the hood and the air blower in the top pocket, the flash in the front pocket, and the camera with the lens attached in the main pocket. Pictures to come when I pick up my prime.

Did you check out my pictures? It's pretty good in that all of the major equipment if easily accessible without opening the entire bag. I have 3 hoods in the top pocket. But you have less lenses then me so you may be able to reverse the hood right on the lens.
