Hi guys, would just like to ask everyone about the first time you shot a wedding solo, did anyone have a shoot list made out?
I have been looking at wedding photographers websites from all
over the world and alot of inspiration there is to be found.
My idea would be to bring a small print out e.g 5x3 in of maybe 150-200
images, poses, flower shots, ring shots, outside church shots etc that I would like to imitate.Keep this in my pocket as a reference,in order of the days shooting.Did anyone else use a shoot list when starting out,as I feel that I could really use it.

We have four 6 x 4 prints in our back pocket with a list of shots on in case we get a block or just to refer to when theres a lul to make sure were getting what we want .... its by no means exhaustive its just a bit of a memory jogger .... probably even more useful on the flip side is space for writing notes of stuff from the day, so things like when the brides having her prep done and a song comes on the radio or she has a cd playing and she says its a her fave song, write it down, or first thing in the morning she mentions a particular shot she wants that she didnt ask for previously, or taking not of the first dance song, or the vicars name or any other number of things that are useful to note during the day.
Every so often we reprint our cards with updated info or when theres too much writing on the back, we print them on our little Selphy 720 prints so they are really robust even when in a hot and sweaty pocket.

I have a notebook as a memory jogger, 2 pages of "must have" shots. Taking a pile of shots to imitate isn't a great idea you won't have time to look at them. Look at lots of photos, google for shot lists (there are thousands online), and follow the emotion.

hey Maytownme,
I can understand why you want a shot list for your first wedding its a great thing to have just in case. I took one with me this past weekend, however I didn't use it. There wasn't enough time for me to sit there and think, ok I need to do this now. The main thing I can tell you is be prepared. Try to visualize the shots before you go into your first wedding, and move around a lot for different angles.
The main time I thought I would need the shot list was for the formals, but that wasn't going to help much because you have about 15 minutes to do them, since people are waiting for the B&G for the reception.
I would say, have another person with you that will memorize the picture order for the formals, and have them direct everyone. I learned this the hard way, I did all the directing myself and it was very cumbersome. Although this did help me realize how I need to be prepared for the next one.
hope this helps
Hassan
