Are they comparable to the Canon line as far as functionability and use? I'm trying to save a little money...

It depends on what specific funtions you're interested in. The new Opteka 600 Super has auto-focus and can do FEL, second curtain sync, manual power settings and stroboscopic effects. If you need wireless slave functions, modeling light or FP/high speed sync, you'll need to look elsewhere. What features do you need and what models are you looking at?

LOL - you are speaking french to me. I am new to SLR, and REALY new to flash/lighting, which is to say I have no idea what I need. I guess a good starter flash to shoot indoor/outdoor portrait type pictures.

Sorry. Check out the article Flash Photography with Canon EOS Cameras (http://photonotes.org/articles/eos-flash/) for a good explanation of this stuff and everything else you ever wanted to know about ETTL flashes for Canon cameras.

What are you thinking of spending? I'd recommend a flash with a decent amount of power that can swivel and tilt for starters.

You probably would have gotten more responses by asking something like, "Which flash for $XYZ or less?"

ANYWAYS, the Opteka EF-600 DG Super E-TTL Digital Flash seems like a decent flash though it was only $99 on Amazon.com a week ago and is now $120.

For that much, you';re probably better off with the Sigma Lens EF 500 DG ST for $140.
