We could do another indoor/studio type shoot like we did last winter. Then it wouldn't matter if the weather was bad. Followed by a pot luck dinner, or a meal out? What say you?

I have been thinking of an outing for some time, a bit different & possibly a bit of a lighting challange. It would take a bit of orgainising and possibly safety inductions & the like but how about a trip to say the steel mill (tapping a pot) or the glass works with its super hot pot??. I know someone at the steel mill (they even got themselves into trouble a number of years ago for taking a siloetted (spelling??) rear view naked picture with a pot being tapped as a background. Very cool (well hot) photo but they got a big telling off. I don't know anyone at the glassworks but know a little about its gas burner system, pretty heavy duty stuff.

If anyone thinks its worth a go at some stage in the future, I'll do a bit of work for it but as I say, it would take a bit of orgainising.

It was only interesting as they had the Vintage Steam show on - on any other day its pretty boring... lol

My dad works in the Paintline at the Steel mill - I think they have pretty heavy procedures though

I was chucked out of the Kawau Museum last August for taking a photo! Spent a profitable hour photographing outside in squalls while the rest continued with the boring tour.

One of my customers works there. I had a grand tour when I first started at Pooplex. I have to admit, I wished I had my camera that day. Darn fascinating stuff

So what's decided on then? i think we need to make a decision as its fast approaching and we'll keep going round in circles otherwise...

Adult return Ferry to Rangitoto is $20.00
Return to Waiheke is $28.50
Kawau Island is $70 return....

Rangitoto is all walkable - to take a car to Waiheke you're looking at over $100.....

Cost seems to be a factor for some people - so maybe we need to pick something more local with minimal cost?
do we need a rollcall to see who's actually interested in going? :P

We have done Rangitoto before. It was an awesome day, one of the most enjoyable GKPEs we have done IMHO. But it was also exhausting, and really would not be fun if the weather is not good.

I see that Mystery Creek Super Special Stage 2 begins at 12.32pm. Would you try to shoot the Franklin/Te Akau stage in the morning, or just Mystery Creek with the car servicing and Rally Girls? Of course that would jump the cost from $20 to $40.

I would say driving from each stage - well that's what we (Aaron & I) will be doing anyway - its all part of the fun of a rally..... I dont really like Super Special stages - they're boring :D

I'm just thinking, by the time we pay for rally tickets, plus petrol to and from the rally, drinks and nibbles out on Saturday night, and some models on Sunday, it is starting to look like an expensive weekend. And I've already spent my photography budget for the next decade......

Have you checked the pdf maps for where the stages are and what roads are open? There were plenty of complaints last year, myself included, when they had so many roads closed, it was the worst ever for being able to se as many stages as possible.

Like out of say 8-10 stages on a day, it was possible to see only 3 or 4 if you were lucky, due to timings, and road closures...

Pete's lights are not available on that day. He is using them for a Fathers day shoot. Which brings up another issue. Are all the fathers in the group busy that day? Personally I can't think of many better fathers day presents than shooting some models :) so maybe the wives and kids should pay for the models....haha

At this stage, I have no passengers, and would be pleased to pick you up on the way through to meet up with the others. Presumably they will be starting just south of Port Waikato.

Picked up a Rally 2007 program from Repco today. Coyote Bar is advertising "Come meet the Jim Beam Girls - 2 for $12"!

$20 for the day's country stages, and $20 for the Mystery Creek Headquarters stages and servicing.

I thought that Lil Miss was not interested in the HQ events - boring, so I was planning on only the country stages, with time for a reasonable lunch and no driving to south of Hamilton and back. It could be quite a hike with all the added traffic. I don't carry sick bags!

You may well want the full day, given the cost of your getting there. It may be the only accessible place for team portrait shots.
