Hi I have an A540 and I am just a beginner to digital cameras but I was curious about the remote shooting feature. What is it and does my camera have it?

Welcome to the forums.
Remote shooting is a feature where you can connect your camera to your computer (using the USB cable) and control it remotely using Canon's software. You don't have to touch the camera at all.
Unfortunately, the a540 doesn't let you do remote capture.
