I tried using my EXTRACT filter in Photoshop CS a couple days ago, and it's not there! The program just freezes and nothing happens until I press the ESC key.
Any thoughts? Or am I just going to have to re-install the whole darned thing?

Extract comes up instantly for me Tom. Maybe you do have a bad install ?
Cheers

Works fine for me too. Maybe you need to reinstall PSCS. I had to do that twice already since I originally installed PSCS late last year. Don't know what it is but there's something that seems to mess up PSCS every ones in a while.

It's probably a good idea to do it routinely, but I was just hoping not to get into that kind of a mess right now. I have so many other 'projects', I hate to devote any time to doing something that shouldn't have to be done at all IMHO.

Clean out your cache. That might be the ticket.

I'll try it.

You might also try deleting your preferences file. Exit PS, then hold down Control, Alt, and Shift and start PS. You'll be asked if you wish to delete your preferences file, and do so.

Or, if you want to just rename it, just in case, instead of deleting it, go here and rename "Adobe Photoshop CS Prefs.psp" to a save name:
C:\Documents and Settings\XXX\Application Data\Adobe\Photoshop\8.0\Adobe Photoshop CS Settings (this is for XP but should be similar for other versions of Windows).
xxx above is your userid.

Scottes and Leo:
Excellent suggestion. I saw your posts earlier today but couldn't actually try it until I took my wife to the movies this afternoon. I got home, deleted the preferences, and my extract filter is back. I saved the old preferences just in case, but it looks like I won't need them.
Thanks. I knew someone would have the answer.

Glad you have it back.
Now you can post something about "Four ways to extract..."

I'm not quite ready for that yet, but I did post a duck butt picture for IanD in Share Photos. I hope he appreciates it.

Tom, what's really weird is that right after I made my first post to you, I went into Photoshop and guess what? I couldn't get into it. I kept getting "Photoshop cannot initialize due to not enought memory (RAM)" or something like that. I ended up reinstalling PSCS a few time but still no luck so I did a google search and read that I can get around the problem by getting rid of my preference. That's what I did and I'm back in business. Weird, huh? Needless to say, the more I use PSCS and the other Adobe products that I have, the less confidence I have in their QA department. Too many weird things going on with these programs. :(
Anyway, glad to hear that you're back in business, too.

Well here it is May 27th 2008. Looks like a very old thread. But, it helped me yesterday, as my filter had gone missing also. All is well now and my filter is back home and I'm happy.
I found this info by Googling !!!
