So, I was going through my pictures and I noticed that 98% of my pictures are taken with a vertical shot. I shot so little horizontally. I guess its a habit I need to get rid of, but then again, it does make me feel comfortable.
I was wondering if any of you guys and gals had this problem?

I'm right there with you. I don't know about 98%, but the vast majority of my shots are vertical. I don't think it's something to get rid of, i think as long as it's used appropriately (which i'm sure it is in your case) it can be a better orientation than horizontal (not alwyas of course).

I don't think it's a problem, per se. I shoot probably 65% vertical. I think you just have to go with your vision, but it is good to at least be aware of it while your shooting.
cheers,
Phil.

I shoot 100% horizontal.
For about 35% of the shots, the earth seems to rotate about 90 degrees around me though. It's not a bad thing though!
Variety is good. portrait/landscape, wide/tight, BW/colour, traditional/edgy, etc... keep it varied through the whole day.

Lloyd, it took me a minute to get your post... lol. I am still quite sleepy though. You're so clever! :-)
I always am changing my angles up. And for some shots if you don't shoot horizontal, you'll miss tons of things in the frame.

The subjects in most wedding photos are people...for the most part, people are taller than they are wide...so it makes sense to me that most of your shots are vertical.

yeah, i probably shoot way more vertical then horizontal too. Most horizontals are saved for the more "artsy" shots.

If you are like me, you are thinking about how the shot will look in 8x10 formated print. I think this is actually an Illness most of us has, it's called Pbrain (Portrait brain):)

Yup, shoot very much in vertical, very seldom in horizontal. If i do shoot in horizontal I often find a better crop vertically - so better shoot "right" right away. Only shoot horizontal when I want some scene setters and groups.

Do any of you folks photograph groups at your weddings? For example... wedding party (very important), families (also important), table photos (mostly requested at Jewish events)... and the like. I can't imagine photographing any of those as a vertical!
The simplest solution.... use a square format!

One thing i've noticed since doing albums is it's much easier to design an album if you shoot all your images the same way - landscape or portrait. Not all day, just for sections - eg signing of the register, vows, group shots.

Yeah, those were the only things that were horizontal. but other than that there were very few horizontal shots.

Like Tim said, I think it looks nicer if sections/sequences are all going the same way, especially for albums. But...I usually blow it with that concept when it comes to the cake cutting. I almost always start out vertical and go horizontal as soon as they get ready to feed it to each other. When that part comes my brain says "Go horizontal, because if they smear it on each other, they are going to move apart and you are gonna miss something". Then when I view them I think, "You dummy, you did it again, why didn't you just take a step backward!" Praise the crop tool:)

Gotcha, Hassan... when you said 98%, I thought you meant of the entire wedding... sorry!
When photographing the bridal couple alone in the park, I like to use a variety of horiz and vert. I tend to shoot a bit on the wide side, then I have the option of cropping either way depending on the scenery.
If you have time on your next wedding, try doing a nice pictoral of the B&G and shoot it both ways... see what you think.

I certainly will do that. I can see how I was very vague. I can see this forum is getting a hold of you. Soon you will be on here all day like I am... sad but true...

Wow, I'm in the minority here shooting primarily horizontal.
I'm a freak, as per usual I guess... :)

I think I do a little more horizontal than vertical (I'm a crooked photographer, so I think that's why) ;), but mix it up pretty well.
