Finally had a chance to visit a beautiful, hardly visited spot up in the mountains here.
Mainly due to the horrible roads and altitude.
Cinchona Botanical Gardens :).
"At an altitude of between 4,500 and 5,500 ft. in the hills of St. Andrew is Cinchona Botanical Gardens. Established in 1868, Cinchona is the only garden of its type in the Caribbean. In its early years, Allen Eyre commented that only the slopes of the Volcan Chiriqui of Panama offers anything comparable for majestic loveliness. From Cinchona one gets a majestic view of Strawberry Hill, the Blue Mountains, Liguanea plains, and Kingston. Forty acres of Cinchona was planted with Asian Tea and there was also a garden of European crops. "
Currently the Gardens are a bit run down but even so it's absolutely breathtaking to be there.
Cinchona was grown there to make Quinine to treat Malaria which was present in the island at that time.
Here are some sort of landscape-ish shotss
Dying Japanese Cedar Tree
This is one of the more oft photographed trees at Cinchona.....
Despite the fact that this tree has been slowly dying for the past few years.
It's up stretched branches and trunk show a delicate form unaffected by the passage of time
