I went to a car show last night in charlotte called Hot Import Nights.

It is an indoor car show, and they turn down/off the majority of the lights so it has a "night club" type atmosphere.

What is the best technique you suggest on taking pictures of the cars and the Models?

I was using a Canon G2 and the S50 last night. For the most part I was in TV mode shooting the cars with a tripod. But even resting my hand on the tripod would kinda shake the camera.

When I shot pictures of people, I just went back to P with auto flash but depending on distance of the object I got good and bad pictures.

One solution I thought of was to either use the timer or the remote control of the G2 to control the shutter on the tripod for the longer shutter.

Do any of you have any more tips for a novice photographer with just point and shoot cameras.

Thanks

Tripod, remote shutter release, no flash. Try to go on the first set-up day or during the week when everyone else is working. See my "car stuff" below. About half of them were taken at shows.
And, good luck.

The show usually allows media to come in an hour before the opening. I think my plan will be to get there early as I can and go take pictures of cars most likely to have a big crowd around them, and get those on my time, so I dont have to fight people walking around it all the time. Then move on to the less nicer cars.

someone told me here if you raise your ISO to 800+ over expose and you won't have to take such a long pic
but i've never taken car pix in the dark so it's hard to say how i'd do it

But doesn't that make you really susceptible to noise in the pictures?

well i did a test and shot at 800 for i forgot how long and they came out crisp and the guy i was posting the reply to was stunned that the pic that i had taken was 800
so i depends and that's why you over expose
try it in the light in you room and just knock you exposure up like, i think i did mine, up 1 1/3 maybe

Here's a link to the pics I took that night. You will see towards the end I started using the flash off the tripod because there was so many people walking around it was a hassle using the tripod...then I ended up going back to it.

thanks, I dont think I have as high as a ISO setting as you guys with the SLR's but I'll try some test shots with it higher. I usually stay at ISO 50.
