Hi
Just wondering if you had to have just one lens for your weddings - what one would it be?
Just interested to find out what people think - and might take some peer advice - as I cant decide what to get
Thanks

1st would be 17-55 2.8 IS USM, but if I always had space it would be my 70-200 2.8 IS USM by far.... I LOVE that lens...

IT would be a hard choice between the 24-70 2.8 L and the 70-200 L IS 2.8.
I guess I would go with the former though.

On my 5D? I'd be tied between the 50 1.4 and the brick. Probably have to go with the L to save my butt in tight places.

well, I currently have a Sigma 24-70mm/2.8 but if I were to shoot an entire wedding with 1 lens it would be Canon 24-70mm/2.8L IS.

I recently shadowed a photographer, and he only used the 28-300L IS for the bridal party shots and ceremony. That thing weighed a ton, about 1/2 pound heavier than my 70-200 2.8 IS...
Later he had the fish eye and 24-70L, but if there had to be just a single lens, I guess 28-300 on a 5D would be it... it's a bit slow F3.5-F5.6 though.

17-55 F2.8 IS - for the IS. You need a backup if you have that lens though, it doesn't have the best reputation for reliability. Neither does the 24-70 though. Given you have the 50mm and the kit lens as a backup the 17-55 is a no-brainer IMHO. 24-70 isn't wide enough on a crop body.
I've used a 28-300L, man that thing is HEAVY! It's a push/pull zoom too. The range is awesome, at a reception I was going from full room shots to head shots in 1/4 sec. You have to use flash though, F5.6 @ 300mm is too slow indoors. Also, you'll need a gym membership if you own that lens. My friend's selling it to get a 70-200 F2.8 IS.

I have this lens but never use it for a indoor wedding as it's to slow. You can't use it at low light places like churches, as even a 1D Mark II has problems to focus with it in low light.
Outside weddings with enough light, there it's fine. But it's not as sharp as my 24-70L which is my main lens on my 1D Mark II.
As already mentioned, it's heavy. But I did'nt know that it's weight is 1 ton minus 1/2 pound.

Just to get this straight, though...some people complain about their 24-70L being soft....I've never heard of one "failing", though. If you have, I'd truly like to hear about it, as it'd be a new thing for me. The 17-55, however, seems to have a rep for just suddenly "dying".

Depends on the body. With one lens, you'd lose out on a lot of shots.
ON 1.6 crop:
17-55 IS + 70-200 IS
1.3 crop:
16-35 + 70-200 2.8 IS
Full frame:
24-70 + 70-200 IS
