Hi everyone,
I have just bought my first camera, powershot s500. I have read the manual, which has been an education for me. I would love to take photos of milky water, but how? I did some reading which suggested using a 2 second exposure which i tried at the local beach, but all i got was a white screen on the lcd.
Whats wrong, please help

Higher f-stop with a slow shutter speed. This will allow less light to the sensor.

Dont take this the wrong way, please god dont. (as i'm always happy to see a budding photographer) but perhaps a reading on the basics of photography (http://www.xs4all.nl/~wiskerke/artikelen/basic1.htm) is needed?
I could be wrong, but 2 seconds shooting at water, well...you may be just as well off as shooting two seconds at the sun.

Thankyou both
However, my camera does allow a some control in manual mode but F stop is not one of them. Does this mean milky water will remain a dream for me and my s500?

I have an S400 myself, so I can sympathize with you on the lack of manual controls it has (being used to the control I have on my G3 has spoiled me, even though I'm still extremely new to photography).
I know you can lower/raise the exposure on the S400... maybe try that on your S500? Or use a slightly quicker exposure than 2 seconds?
