First let me say that I in no way claim to be a performance photographer. I always take my rig to shows though hoping to catch a good shot or two. Well as fate would have it, someone using a flash snapped at the same time I did and here is the result. Hope you all like it. It is of Sara Watkins from Nickle Creek and Glen Phillips.

Nice shadows from the other persons' flash! Shame the performers aren't looking in your direction.

1/25 f4.0 ISO 1600. I was just playing around with different settings at the time. I know the people look a little crappy but its the shadows that I like about this one. Normally I'll play around for a while with my settings during the opening act and then settle in for the headliner. Here are a couple of my final shots because some big guy came up to me and said "You can't use that kinda camera to take pictures" and I said "Oh you mean if I was using some camera phone or some crappy camera it would be ok!" no answer to that one. (I've never been told I couldn't shoot in this venue before). Later I was talking to the press photographer who said that he is restricted to shooting during 2 songs only. He said his first encounter with them was for a magazine shoot and that they were such a nightmare to work with that the shoot had to be moved to a studio. The studio was owned by a friend of his who called him after the shoot and said he would never work with them again. LOL I could go on about how bad they were. This is my third time seeing them and it really showed that Chris Thile did not even want to be there.

I like the shots! We occasionally have acts at the casino who are so ill behaved that they will never be allowed back ... and these are big deal acts that depend on support from 'the tour'.

Cool Shots!!
Dont you hate when you pay to see a show, and the performer acts like it's a chore for him to be there?!? Sort of ruins it for everyone

WOW! I can't say how happy that makes me feel to see you say you like them Dwight. I've followed your work on this forum for a while now and admire it greatly. Thanks.

Thanks every. Yeah it really did ruin it for me. Bluegrass and similar style music with BG instrumentation is my 5 y.o. daughters favorite kind of music, and she loves NC. I was hoping to hang around the bus and get a shot with her and them, but when the press photog told me that would probabley not happen, I decided not to because I didn't want to disappoint her. Bummer.
