I love heights.
Haa, it's not so much the height, its the falling through the fragile fibrolite Super Six roofing that's the issue.

Certainly not my cup of tea!!, I've got a mate that used to maintain the old style glasshouses, had hundreds of cuts, mostly fairly tame but some pretty bad ones as well. NOT FOR ME!!

10D? That's ancient. Is it IR?
Very cold looking, I like it

Quite like that Mr Joeseph-san. The lines from the pylons work well, though the mountain peak appears a bit soft. Cool colours too.

thks - 10D with R72 Hoya instead of a Canon hot-morror... ;)

cheers - the softness is probably not enough apeture, I've been a bit reluctant to go much above f/8 as the "sensor dust" effect gets harder & harder to clone out... guess i could always use tripod & multiple exposure/stack images.

I like the use of the pylons in the image. It is often a pain in the @ss to get a devent picture without them somewhere ruining the landscape

So did I. I spent a huge amount of time on that very beach while I should have been at school.

What are they?
Surely that doesn't matter. As I see it (and I may be wrong) the images are there as they are to create graphical shapes, not to tell you about the objects.
I quite like them, though I think the exposures of sky against the objects is difficult and although you've done a pretty damned good job, it's missing that last 5% due to that exposure stuff.

i love that ir stuff - do the shots surprise you with how they come out? like which trees are lightest etc? or are you used to it now?

It's all a lucky-dip really, guess if I had a background in botany I might be able to remember what amount of IR reflection each type has - sadly, they're just all "trees" to me... :p

Forgive the double posting but I would like critical feedback on this photograph. I am keen to learn how to do it better.
I sometimes have difficulty separating the feelings generated at the time, which were of having a really nice time; the 360 degree experience, which was stunning; versus the image captured.
I printed it out on A4 and IMHO it looks very nice.
So criticism please: what is good about it, what is wrong with it, how could it be improved.

Personally Bruce, I think this is some of your more adventurous work. It's playing with ideas in composition and structure more than you normally do, and daring to rely on simple, graphical shapes more than you normally would. Whilst it isn't groundbreaking photography, it's brave to take something which is so empty and whose strength relies on simple blocks of contrasting but complimenting colours.
Personally I think the tight crop and orientation is a good thing. I would rather see it tighter almost, but I guess you'd lose some of those blocks of colour. I think maybe the clever bit is the use of compression of perspective (using a relatively long focal length at a guess). I think maybe it could have been improved further by making that effect stronger, which would mean being stood further away and shooting the same scene using a longer lens, which I'd take a wild guess wasn't practical.
Personally I'd have been adding a hint of vignetting maybe in the PP, and possibly trying a bit of desaturation. I'm not sure that would look good or not though. It's a good shot Bruce. :)

I like it too.
As Dave sais, it is a photo of nothing in particular, but the use of blocks of colour add to the graphical impact of the picture.
I do find my eyes wandering around looking for something to focus on though.
Maybe next time take a naked model and lay her on the grass on a large red piece of material on the bottom right of the picture ;)

Hi all,
Went out Goat shooting with a couple of matess out the back of Karori yesterday and took a few photos, mostly postcard photos. Any comments would be greatly appreciated.
Bumped into this guy on our way out, classic old school Farmer, oilskins, stock whip and horse.

My ticket was booked and confirmed:
11 Nov 2008 ---> Dubai to Christchurch via Singapore, will arrive NZ in 13 Nov 2008.
I hope it will not be very busy there so i can find cheaper accommodations and i hope the transports are good as well to move around.
Hope to meet one of POTNers there, at least once in my life. :-)

You've got Chris (NZShrimper) and Mark (Sancho) in Chch. Both are pretty cool guys. If Chris says he'll take you for a beer, decline politely or you'll end up stewed in a bar or a strip club. ;)
Good luck with the travels and photography on the South Island. I've a sneaky suspicion you'll love it! :)

hehehe, in fact i must decline [Politely] because i am a muslim guy and i don't drink alcohol or beer and so, not even going to bars, so don't worry ;):D
I am sure i will love the places there, thats why i booked longer for there, i never traveled for longer than 2 weeks since 2006 yet.

Thanks!
Any type of accommodation will be fine, just i want to be sure i have a shower in the room, and i wish to have queen size bed, thats all what i need, when i planned for Australia and called some agencies there some of them recommended me to choose backpackers because i will go out all the time for shooting, choosing an expensive hotels while i don't spend my time in hotel will be wasting money and then i can't move more due to low budget and saving for hotels then, and the most important, it should be safe and secure for bags and gear and any important documents if so.
