A little help here...sportin a new s40 and have no clue how

Yeah, Umm... I'm new to the whole digital camera relm and well, basically the whole photography thing all together. I own a Powershot s40 and was wondering I've mastered the auto setting and the video setting, and all the modes except for a couple... what does m, av, tv, and p do?... and does anyone have any suggestions on how to better use the camera. I'm good with my Photoshop program, but I want to actually take nice pictures without having to use a program. Well any help would be grateful.

I suggest four things:

1. check through the past posts on this forum. There's a lot of good info hidden here.

2. get a basic photography book. I did that and it was a great resource to have around.

3. read your manual. Unlike most manuals, it's actually pretty informative.

4. search the Web for info. Sites like megapixel.net post great articles on using a digital camera.

What you ask is really general, so it's probably better for you to figure some of the stuff out, and ask more specific questions in this space.
