Yes, I graduated today. But as I was walking towards the area the students were to sit I spotted it, the press man. But first you must realize that I live in a very small town with one very small newspaper with two very low budget freelance photographers (Nikon users  ). So when I saw the man with the 1Ds I had to stop. When I saw the 24-70mm Canon L series lens I had to nod...when he pulled out the 70-200 f/2.8 USM IS L I had to say, “Hey! Nice camera...”

When my friends around me asked "why does he need a lens that big?”, I said “Oh my friends, that? That is not a large lens. In fact that is a rather small lens with a mere focal length of 200mm” I said. “I have every intention of buying that small lens next month. It is a very fast lens indeed with wonderful image quality.”

“Fast?” my friends asked, “I thought the camera needed to be fast” Oh how they will never understand what makes a lens worth $1600

Graduation money? What graduation money! This money is a down payment on my new lens.

Oh but my story is not over yet, as I sat there, as my fellow classmates spoke, as the teachers spoke, and as the songs were sung...well, and don’t get me wrong I wanted nothing more then to get done and move on with my life there is nothing more except to be one of the photographers roaming the event that is. When I see a person with a nice SLR in their hand, and mine are empty...I am in envy for I am lesser of a person. And when this is the larger part of my train of thought...when I find myself watching the way he picks his location more then I watch my former science teacher praise the class of 2004, well, that is when I realize that I am a photographer.

Hi Timmy,

congratulations on your exam!

Now ... I might not be a 'true photographer' at all ... however, I recently noticed that my behaviour would be considered strange by many ... there was a TV feature yesterday on the new Miss Greece in which they showed her in a bikini photo shoot ... and I was really drooling ... when I looked at the camera and lens of the photographer

Best regards,
Andy

The worst is when you're at a wedding and pay more attention to the photographers equipment. Just about anybody with an grabbing interest in Photography will do that.

Why else would you even be there?

Tim:
Congratulations on an important milestone.

You are about to enter the world of credit card defecit spending---an important millstone .

Really, it's good to have school behind you. At a bare minimum, the best part of the whole thing is: You'll never have to wear one of those stupid hats with the tassel on it ever again. (clearly designed by someone with a bizarre sense of humor).

Really....congratulations. Well done.

Such eloquence from one so young.

Congratulations Timmy. It was worth 2 minutes of download time on my slow DSL connection to see you in your graduation robes.

Go well and stay well,

Even that wouldn't be enough to get me to go to a wedding...

Congrats Timmyquest

My wife thinks I am embarassing when we go to weddings and I spent most of the time trying to identify what lenses and body the photographer is using.

The last wedding was a MKII with 10D backup and lenses 16-35mm and a 70-200 2.8.

Almost made me embarrassed to pull out my D30.

Timmy - you got edge. Learn to use it to your advantage in the real world, and you got it made.

Peace and good luck
