Some nice stuff there although your white balance has gone awry with the confused.com Porsche shot. Presumably your interest in the Bigma is for uses other than motorsport?

The Porsche seems to have developed a green tint from Photobucket:confused:
Would you not reccomend the Bigma for motorsport?

I use a Bigma for motorsports and find it perfectly adequate. I have considered swapping it for a 100-400mm L but I'm really not sure I need to and feel I would be trading up just to have a big white L lens.
Would the difference really be that much more noticeable?

Redone the Porsche shot now and it's lost the green tint.

Definitely an improvement on the Porsche shot!
Hang about... do you mean a Bigma or a 120-300mm f/2.8? They are different lenses.
The Bigma isn't a popular lens amongst motorsport photographers in the UK. The range is nice but the small maximum aperture isn't helpful in the low light levels we often see and it doesn't help with AF speed much either. Remember that f/6.3 is technically beyond the AF ability of all but 1 series dSLRs. Couple that with trying to track high speed objects using AI Servo under our prevailing low light conditions and you can see the problem. AI Servo sampling rate decreases as the light levels hitting the AF sensors decrease and a slow lens means less light hitting the AF sensors. That's why you tend to see a lot of back-focused shots with slower lenses. If I were you I'd look for a lens with a maximum aperture of f/4 at the smallest.
The Sigma 120-300mm f/2.8 is a cracking motorsport lens.
JurekB... I've got a 100-400L somewhere. I wouldn't bother upgrading to one if I were you.

I should also add that the F3 shot is my favourite of this bunch, it is a cracking 3/4s pan with perfect shutter speed. I think you have the location wrong. If that's the exit of Stirlings then they've knocked down a lot of houses and pinched their gardens to build that gravel trap.

I thought we may have been talking at crossed purposes, yes I ment the Sigma 120-300 f2.8 rather than the big Sigma.
Hoping to get in time for the World superbikes so I can test it out.
Thanks for the comments:)

Now there's a lens even Glenn would recommend <takes cover>
Some nice shots there but at the risk of sarcastic comments from Dave_G i'd have to agree with Glenn and pick the F3 shot as the best of the bunch.
Good luck with getting the 120-300 in time for the WSBK, i'm sure you'll love the lens. :)

 I think I was about the second regular member of this forum to own the lens after the arch-priest of the 120-300mm, Canuck. Since I still have it I must be vaguely fond of it.

Nice shots. I like the Beetle although could perhaps be more central in the frame.
And you didn't get the rolling F3 at Druids?
Shame <feels smug>. Once I sort out publication I'll post it in a seperate thread but will be a couple of days. I promise it's worth waiting for.
Well done Colin
