I am so tired of everyone ranting about how great the MK II is. I have had mine less than a day and it already isn't working. I've tried recharging the stupid batteries and everything. THis thing is showing no signs of life at all. I got the camera this morning and was checking it out and reading the pamphlets when I got to thinking..... I'm a little nervous about carrying such an expensive piece of equipment around all the time. I've heard stories about photographers in Iraq covering the logos on their cameras with electrical tape to "devalue" them somewhat. So.....I got a paperclip, straightened it out and began scratching off all the logos; even got that stupid MK II off! Once finished I took a good look at the camera. Even without the logos it still looked awfully new, so I decided to scuff it up a bit more. I went to the top of my stairs and dropped it (only from about 1 meter up). The camera made it down about three steps and stopped. I retrieved it and checked out my handiwork. Not a mark on it! By now I was getting a little frustrated so I decided to take a bowling approach and made a second attempt. Success! This time the camera made it all the way down the stairs and showed some pretty good scratches and scuffs. The only problem now is that it won't turn on! I mean come on, I thought Cannon said this thing was durable? I'm sending this thing back and getting a 1Ds, I've heard they are REALLY solid. Ya'll take care, David

Clearly a defective unit. You are absolutely within your rights to demand a full refund.

The nerve of a company like Canon trying to foist such cheesy merchandise on the public. If it wasn't for vigilant folks like you, many others might be duped into beieving the Mk II is a rugged, professional-quality camera.

I think I will sell mine.

I'm so disappointed.

I can understand your disappointment. Whilst it would be a burden to me, I could lessen your pain somewhat by allowing you to donate the offending item to a worthy cause... me! Of course, I expect you to pay for shipping... there are limits to my generosity ;)

For those of you who will not compromise on authentic scuffs and scratches, I would recommend a bench grinder.

Or even better yet....the National Lampoon method....

Tie it to your back bumper and drive around for a bit......

Don't forget to throw also the box, manuals and accessories that comes with the camera. If you think that the 550ex, your L lenses and even your CFs are junk also, throw those out as well.

Cheers!

That's the only way to explain it... I talked ill of the MK II and now I'm cursed. The other evening I was online and read (in this forum) that B&H had MKII's in stock. So I hurried over and ordered one (the site said in stock!). Every since I've been SOOO excited. Like a little kid going to the carnival. I can't stop thinking about it. I guess that's why I posted this stupid thread, juvenile I know. Anyway, I just got an order status email from B&H and it says my order has been partially shipped!! I also ordered a 2 gig CF card with the MK II and I just know that that's all that got shipped. B&H says the rest of my order in "on order". @&%$!!!! (Talking to god) I'm so sorry, I'll never say another bad thing about Canon again, just please don't make me wait for months?! I guess ya'll are free to ridicule me at your leisure, lord knows I deserve it. Dave
