hi,
my uncle is a photographer but comes from film world so he's not too savvy in PS yet. i've been using PS for 7-8 years but have never played with actions, other than the usual automated contact sheets. he's got a group of photos in Tiff format that he needs to convert to jpg and burn to a CD for a city project. i'm pretty sure i could figure it out on my own after a little dinking around but i'd like to see what people with more action experience do.

thanks.

It's free.

If find this easier to do in Breezbrowser (http://www.breezesys.com/).

For Photoshop 7:

Create an action by doing the following:
- Create a new action, give it a name, start recording.
- Open a TIFF image in a folder.
- Save As JPEG in another folder, selecting the JPEG options you desire.
- Close the file.
- Stop recording the action

Next set up for Batch processing (File>Automate>Batch)
- Set/Action: Your action name
- Source: Folder > choose the folder
- Check "Override Action Open Commands"
- Check "Supress Color Profile Warnings" (optional)
- Destination: Folder > choose different folder
- Check "Overide Action "Save As Commands"
- Errors: Select "Log Errors to File" and designate the file name.

Click OK and sit back while enjoying your coffee.

I find these Photoshop actions running in Batch mode to be a bit quirky - probably my inexperience. Good luck. 8)
