I've got a test version of my site up now and the Imagemagick functions test fine in the built in tests, but when I load photos into the database through the upload page I get lots of artifacts in the "converted" photos, particularly in the 800-1024 images. I've tried this with various starting sizes and resolutions on the original photos. Here are a couple samples (change to the Large size on the page):

If I load the images into the database through the upload page then manually copy images I've resized in photoshop it works fine, but it would be nice if convert.exe was working properly!

I also run a photopost based website on this server and the Imagemagick\mogrify.exe command that photopost calls hasn't had any problems. Is it possible to use mogrify.exe instead of convert.exe? Thanks! - Mary

Is anyone else having problems with convert? What image size and resolution should I start with?

I suspect those problems may be IM memory usage problems when it opens JPG and makes a copy of it for resize. Or plain Imagemagick bugs. Perhaps you can mail me one original for testing?

It is usually not wise to upload orinal photos for EE, but "the biggest image size" in gallery, meaning the size which you offer to users as biggest available size. For this path set path setup's resize method to "NONE" which means it is merely copied over (only optional watermarking will make EE touch it). Then the other sizes are all smaller any way you like. This has also the advantage of having very good quality "big" size (if you resize/sharpen the in Photoshop for example).

Thanks Pekka - I sent you a sample image (before loading it to ee and after) to see if you have similar problems. The after effects on a non-resized photo can be seen here: http://www.californiabirder.com/gallery/photo.php?photo=28&size=wallpaper
